BenQ EH620 review: A ‘smart’ projector with Windows 11 inside?

The EH620 measures 4.2kg and is 14.9×4.9×10.35 inches (HWD). It is not too heavy or extremely light, but it can be easily carried from one place to another. You can mount it permanently if desired. It’s a basic-looking projector that we have seen from BenQ. The projector is protected by a shiny white plastic case. You can access the zoom or focus functions of your lens from the top. You will also see the Power, Temp and Lamp LEDs on the top of the buttons. To the left is the power button. The source, Back and menu buttons are at the bottom. And the OK (Select/Enter), button is in the middle. You can navigate the menu and adjust the volume using the arrow buttons located around the OK buttons.

A fan is built into all projectors. The fan is very quiet, but it can become louder depending upon the picture mode. You have the option of connecting to Wi-Fi at 2.4 or 5GHz and Bluetooth 4.2. If you need to, you can also pair it with Bluetooth soundbars and keyboards. Two HDMI ports enable you to connect with most video sources, gaming consoles, and computers.

The EH620 can project a screen of 150 inches while being only 1.5m away from the projected surface. It also includes a remote that allows for quick access to the menu without needing to navigate through it. The user interface is intuitive and easy to use. Although the internal speaker can get quite loud, you should not expect too much from projector speakers in this area.

Software

The BenQ EH620 runs Windows 11 thanks to the latest Intel Processing 4000 series. If you have ever used a Windows computer before you should know what it is like. The standard Windows navigation scheme is available or BenQ can create its own launcher interface. The user-friendly interface has three buttons to access key operations: Wireless Projection and Conference.

Built-in Windows OS makes it easy to access many apps without the need to connect to an additional laptop. (Image: Anuj Bhatia/Indian Express).

A projector with a Windows OS built in has certain advantages over a conventional projector. For example, you can access tons of apps without connecting to an external laptop. Most of the apps you’d expect to use for video meetings with colleagues are available, including Google Meeting, Skype or TeamViewer. You can easily download more business apps from the Microsoft store. You can also use it as a projector and a laptop by incorporating web browsers such as Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. EH620 allows wireless access to OneDrive files. Additionally, the BenQ EH620 protects you against malware and other cybersecurity threats with AES 128-bit encryption and WPA2 wireless protection.

Should the BenQ EH620 be purchased?

While the BenQ EH620 might seem more expensive that other 1080p projectors of its kind, it comes with extra features enterprise customers will love, such as Windows 11 and security features. The EH620 has so many features for a more affordable price, making it an excellent choice for organizations who need a “smart projector” without spending too much.
