Mark Zuckerberg, Meta founder and CEO, announced today that the company will now offer digital avatars on the WhatsApp platform.
WhatsApp now allows users to upload their personal avatars as profile pictures. They can also choose from one 36-color custom sticker that reflects many emotions and takes actions.
“We are bringing avatars into WhatsApp! You can now use your avatar to make stickers in chats. Zuckerberg added that more styles will soon be available across all our apps.
Your avatar can be a digital representation you, which can be created using billions of combinations of hairstyles and facial features.
“Sending an avatar can be a fun and quick way to communicate your feelings with family and friends. WhatsApp said that an avatar can also be used to show your personality without using your real photograph, so it feels more private.
The company stated that they will continue to offer style enhancements, including lighting, shading, and hair style texture, that will make avatars even more beautiful over time.
Zuckerberg hopes to see people create immersive worlds and bring this technology to more countries.
Meta wrote in a blog that she wanted everyone to be able to control their Horizon Worlds experience.
Meta has also indicated that it will add legs for its virtual avatars. These avatars are not yet on Horizon Worlds VR platform. They may appear early next year.
