Elioda Guimizamu (21), a Field Force Unit police constable, was taken into custody and handed to the police. This happened while he tried to flee the scene, the Daily Monitor newspaper reported.

Elly Maate, regional police spokesperson, said that the policeman, along with others, entered an Indian hardware store and shot the Indian businessman.

The officer was captured and taken into custody. He’s currently at Kisoro station, where he will be interrogated to find the motive.

Maate reported that the victim was taken in critical condition to St Francis hospital Mutolere in Kisoro District.

Patel was taken to hospital hours later after sustaining a gunshot wound. Police confirmed this.

Gilbert Mwiseneza, a casual worker in Kuntaj’s shop, was one of the eyewitnesses. He stated that he and his boss were looking after a client when an armed officer came in and pointed the gun at him before shooting a bullet into his chest.

Mwiseneza explained that the policeman tried to flee after the shooting but was caught by those who gave chase.

Shaffique Sekandi (Kisoro Resident District Commissioner) condemned PC Gumizamu’s act, saying that he was in the Force for four-years.

This incident occurred months after two Indians were abducted from Kenya.

It was discovered that the Kenyan government had not made any official statements regarding the report.

Namgya Khampa was the Indian High Commissioner in Kenya and requested that President William Samoei Ruto expedite the investigation.
